Confusion but hopeful!!

So I just received an email today from the placement office,  the first email that was sent stated that I have passed my medical however it was too late for the program I was nominated for so I need to give them an updated resume and show some flexibility in the region I want to go... so this obviously made me want to cry,  because I really want to do this soon and I really want to go to Africa!!!  Well soon later I received two more emails, one that told me to just send an updated resume before they give it to placement for final review, the email that was sent after said to disregard the first email and to go by the latest email that I have received so I guess that this means my application is headed off for final review :)!!!! So I am not sure how long from here it will be until I hear about my invitation...  I know once I receive one update, it is usually quick to hear a response (generally a day or two later), one could only hope!

  1. I am also nominated for Africa in December 2010. According to the Peace Corps Wiki, Guinea would be the only destination that we would be going to if invited. Anyway, I've been following the news in Guinea and I've got a hunch that the PC may be waiting to send invites until after they see what happens with the presidential election. Unfortunately, the election has been postponed after last weekend's unrest. Have you been following the situation over there and do you have any thoughts on it?

  2. OMG, so finally someone else has been nominated for the same departure date, I am happy to see this. I was guessing Guinea too!! I was talking to one of my good friend is actually from Senegal and she was tell me all about it, I really hope this doesn't postpone our potential departure. I was thinking that too though, that they are trying to wait and see. They did send a bunch of RPCV this month though to help with Education and other jobs.

On a side note, have you passed all of the application (medical, dental, legal)? If so, have you heard from the placement officers yet?

  3. I felt the same way when I visited your blog today. I've been scouring blogs for someone with a dec 2010 nomination for the last month since I discovered the Peace Corps Wiki. I did also notice that there are some new Peace Corps Response programs so that seems like a good sign. But I did start mentally prepping myself after last weekend's events in Guinea to assume that I wouldn't be leaving this December. I hope that assumption doesn't come true because that means either (1) there has been more violence in Guinea or (2) I was passed up for this assignment.

Anyway, I got everything done early and have all my check marks except placement filled out for several months now. I haven't heard from a placement officer directly, but a placement assistant did email me for some additional info a few weeks ago. Since then, nothing. Six weeks from December 4th is still five weeks away so there is still time for stuff to happen. Good luck to you.

Also, for what field were you nominated?

  4. I find that the most encouraging part, we do have 5 weeks. I actually read that they are hoping to have the new elections with in the next 2-3 weeks, so I guess we have 2 weeks after that to hear anything.

I have been nominated for business advising. What about you? I've been prepped to think that I may not be leaving as soon as I want, I even advised my friends and family that I may not leave until next summer, which I pray does not happen. When I talked to the placement assistant, it was weird when she first told me that I didn't qualify in time for the nomination date, then she emails me 20 mins later telling me to ignore that email and gave me a new one... I do not want to read too much into that but I feel as if they may still be sending people in December, and there are still openings.

This whole process is crazy too, every blog I read is very unique when it comes to everyone time line to acceptance.

If you want, add me on Facebook @ Joshua Nowasell it should be for New York, NY. We can send better messages there to talk some more, be a little easier than on here.
